Construction Materials Testing

Our construction material testing laboratory has been in operation since 1967. Our main laboratory is located in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico (South East Metropolitan Area of San Juan). We also have a field office at Ponce (South Coast, PR) and Mayaguez (West Coast, PR). Depending on the project size, we may be able to set up field offices equipped with testing equipment anywhere on the island, Virgin Islands or any other island of the Lesser Antilles. Our company has twenty five (25) laboratory technicians, an engineer and a manager dedicated solely to our testing laboratories. All of our technicians have been trained as American Concrete Institute (ACI) technicians for their corresponding duties, whether it is laboratory technician, strength testing technician or field technician.

Our laboratory is AAP compliant with the following quality standards:

  • ASTM D3740: Standard Practice for Minimum Requirements for Agencies Engaged in the Testing and/or Inspection of Soil and Rock as Used in Engineering Design and Construction
  • ASTM E329: Standard Specification for Agencies Engaged in the Testing and/or Inspection of Materials Used in Construction

J&S in Trujillo Alto, PR is accredited by the AASHTO Accreditations Program (AAP) for soil, construction materials and aggregates testing. In order to fulfill with the regulations imposed by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratories (AMRL) and the Concrete and Cement Reference Laboratories (CCRL), we are enrolled in their proficiency sample testing program. Also, JSTL has been validated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the same standards as for AAP.

GEOTECHNICAL LABORATORY

J&S laboratory has been testing soils in PR and the Caribbean Region since 1967. J&S is accredited by AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP) and US Army Corps of Engineers validated for certain standards. J&S maintains a comprehensive quality control and personnel training program. J&S soil laboratory testing is monitored and verified by a PE staff engineer with the support senior geotechnical engineers.
